At about 761 mph, sea level, that was the Sonic Boom, if the air is moist enough, it will also give off a visual effect as well. If you have never seen a visual : search: for Sonic Boom

You welcome. However the audio track of the re-entry of STS-1 is "cropped" (is shortened), for example nose gear didn't touch down, even though astronaut said it was. original STS-1 re-entry recording is available in Youtube.

@sporadiccrash yeah I noticed that too, trouble was some IMAX clips were at 23.9760 fps and some were 25,0000 fps, I had to change one or the other to append them all, sorry for that.

The re-entry in the end is from mission STS-1 (first Space Shuttle flight) of Columbia in 12 April 1981.
