The BTS (Sky Train) in Bangkok is excellent for getting above the traffic and reaching your destination in comfort -- irrespective of the traffic jams below.

I hope this will help those going to Bangkok for the first time to feel more comfortable about using the BTS -- it really is very user friendly.

There are route maps inside each carriage and an electronic voice announces the next station shortly after leaving the last station and again before arriving at the next.

For 2 people a taxi can still be cheaper -- depending on traffic conditions, time of the day etc. The BTS is clean safe, reliable and has great air conditioning.

  • There is no BTS link to the airport but there is a new rapid train rail link that opened mid 2010 that starts from Phya Thai BTS station and goes to the City Air Terminal at Makkasan in central Bangkok and then onto Suvarnabhumi Airport.

  • I will be visiting Bangkok in 4 days (Wed 24 Feb 2010) from Sri Lanka and staying in Plaza Athenee Hotel. I hope to use the BTS skytrain for some travel specially the MBK center.

This is my first trip to Bangkok and this video was just God sent. Thanks for the good work.

  • Thanks for your comment, I hope it has helped.

The BTS station for MBK is National Stadium and then a very short walk along a covered walway to enter MBK.

I have also posted a video on the Canal Bus trip from MBK to Pratunam. Heading in the opposite direction would get you to Golden Mountain.

I hope you will enjoy Bangkok :-)

  • I like the Singapore MRT ticketing system as well, taking notes and being able to buy more than 1 ticket for the same journey is good. The rechargable and refundable tickets are good.

I love what the BTS has done to transport times between the parts of Bangkok that it covers, I can still remember the traffic jams from the late 1980s and early 1990s ...... very ugly....

  • thanks guys, for a good friendly response, thinking of heading down to Phuket and BKK early new year, loves spending times these places,Yea, sky train will be very handy to run down to the city rather than a taxi. Thanks again guys.

  • @burmesetiger1 Yeah it's been available since last year

costs about 1.1 USD to the city with normal line (25 mins) and 5 USD with express line (15 mins)

  • @burmesetiger1 Yes, go to Phaya Thai BTS station then catch the Airport Rail Links Train

  • Totally take the skytrain while in Bangkok. Its cheap and fast and clean and full of smiles. It makes the L in Chicago look like a piece of rusty junk.

  • is there a sky train link to the new airport yet.Or are there any on the plan?

  • Good video!

I wish that they'd improve the aircon as compared with the MRT it's still a bit underpowered.

The ticket machines on the BTS stations would be better if they accepted 1 and 2 baht coins too.

    Pretty all considering though.
