This video is a brief interview with Phil Smith (New York Philharmonic) and Dr. Robert Rumbelow about the current CD project featuring The CSU Wind Ensemble with Chris Martin (Chicago Symphony), Mark Hughes (Houston Symphony), Phil Smith, and future trumpet soloists.

Phil Smith's residency in October 2008 included a masterclass, concert with the CSU Wind Ensemble, and recordings of Dramatic Essay by Clifton Williams, When Morning Gilds the Skies arranged by Greg Pascuzzi, Curl of Motion by CSU Schwob School of Music Director Fred Cohen and Embraceable You arranged by Dr. Robert Rumbelow.

All of the footage used was filmed in Studio Theatre and Legacy Hall at the River Center for the Performing Arts. These performances spaces are primarily used by students at Columbus State University's Schwob School of Music. The video presented here was produced in the Feighner Recording Studio by CSU music students Mark Owens and Justin Worley.

  • when is this CD coming out!?!?

  • Wow, it's great to see how amazingly kind Phil is! He seems to love to teach despite being one of the most proficient trumpet players in the world...and that's amazing.

  • cool, the guy who arranged the music is one of my professors

  • @elamodelcorral1 Yes!!! Please, is there a link anywhere on the net to this performance? Nobody knows any of these motherfuckers talkin gibberish

  • mark owens? more info, please! MARK OWENS: need to know if that's who i'm trying to figure out about!

  • Nice to hear my good friend Greg Pascuzzi's arrangement of "When Morning Gilds the Skies." Greg and i worked together in the Field Band for a dozen years. Amazing talent.

  • The way he holds the flugel makes it look like a rotary from certain angles.
