Tomato Growing Secrets - building a simple support

This system of trellis building requires 3 bamboo poles or something similar. A length of strong string (I use old binder twine) about 3-feet long.

Put the poles together rather loosely with the thin ends (bamboo has a thinner end and a thick end) together. This will be the top.

Wind a semi-tight loop of string around the poles to bind them together.

The strength in this comes from wrapping the string around itself between the poles and pulling this as tightly as possible. I tend to cross from one space to the other and back again in a criss-cross pattern. When you run out of string, then tie some knots so it won't unravel.

Place the poles in a tripod position and if you have the string tight enough, this tomato support will hold at least 3 plants (one per pole)

I use these to support a cross pole (made from 2 bamboo poles) so I can tie tomatoes to the overhead pole and use the uprights for climbing beans.
