Yes, the race was televised on ABC's Wide World of Sports, I'm guessing from approx. 1972 thru 1986.

I just remember each year that was 'the' race. I'd bug my dad 'Please take me to the race'. Then I got my drivers license : )

I remember the joke about the Dutchman Wolsink was is that he was a dental student. Always dentist jokes with him.

really good stuff. you did a good job of filming. carlsbad was the kind of track where when you raced and placed good, would feel like you accomplished something. I guess because it is truly hallowed ground.

Anyone remember back in 1974 Yamaha put on "Yamaha Dirt Days"? Yamahas factory racers would go to local tracks and "teach" motocross for a day. I went to it in Michigan at Milan Raceway, "Teachers" were Pierre Karmakers , I think it might have been Hart, also and can't think of the 3rd.

Carlesbad got the Nationals because the Europeans couldn't win at ACP in Phoenix because the track was too dificult and they were afraid of the suicide. ACP refused to change the track so the Nationals moved to Carlesbad. Where are the Europeans now?

My brother and I went to that race12 years straight camping out all weekend. I saw Andre Malherbe crash right in front me breaking his leg and giving the 1982 championship to lackey.Sorry brad but Malherbe was unstoppable that year. Till then anyway. Thanks for the memories and here's to Art Schol. And CMC every weekend.
