April 8th 2011 @ 6:30PM A 2-alarm fire in a house at 13720 111th Ave. Surrey crews arrived to find light smoke showing and quickly located a marijuana grow operation and decided to back out until BC Hydro could cut the power. The lives wires burned away from the house and then ignited out on the street atop the power poles, firefighters had to back across the street do the extreme danger of falling live wires. The fire grew in intensity as crews waited for the power to be cut. Once it was done, firefighters knocked the fire down quickly. RCMP is now investigating. No injuries were reported.
I bet people had the munchies for miles around.

I've been a firefighter for 25 years, and electricity scares the HELL outta me.

Wow. It sure doesn't take long for that trail of smoke to turn into an all-out blaze.

It's situations like this where i wish Hydro had some kind of quick response vehicle. Nothing a firefighter hates more than standing around and waiting while a house burns. Maybe even a Hydro truck with lights and sirens??
