The Superstars - 1978 World Final - Football Slalom

The football slalom event from the 1978 World Final of.. The Superstars!

In the searing heat of Freeport in the Bahamas, contestants would have to try and steer the football around the slalom gates and then beat the keeper, Shep Messing (USA).

In the clip, you'll see Jean-Paul Coche (FRA), Keith Fielding (GBR), Ties Kruize (NED) and Grant Batty (NZL) each taking their three attempts against the clock and against the goalkeeper.

Keith Fielding would go on to win the football slalom event and be denied a win in the 100 metres by a controversial decision, and would finish 5th overall, behind Brian Budd (CAN) who would win three years on the trot.
