First Christmas Away from Home (Rogers)

Stan Rogers's sad Christmas song, "First Christmas Away from Home," performed by Jesse Ferguson, the Bard of Cornwall. I'm posting this one in July instead of at Christmas, since it's a little too sad for the holidays. Likely one of the saddest songs I know. My version is partly inspired by that of youtube's newfiefiddler.

Oh man, that was so brilliant! Your voice has such a rich timbre. I think Stan would be pleased. Whenever I perform this song, I have to run it several times to dry all the tears out of me, just so I don't start crying in the middle of it.

One of my favorite songs. I find it hard to listen to because it is so sad, but it's especially important to remember these people during the holidays. Lovely voice, Stan would be proud :)

If you're given to solemn moments at this time of year, consider this: How it testifies to your contribution in this world if...after almost 30 years, when you perished on a foreign runway, in a burning commercial jet airplane while saving other people's lives...taking them to safety; that a young man who wasn't even born at the time, does such a wonderful turn singing one of your most heartrending songs.

This is the most touching song I've ever heard. You sing it beautifully. It makes me want my last Christmas back so much... Thank you. This is truly lovely.
