Tuba Excerpts from Symphonic Metamorphosis

These are the most asked for (in auditions) excerpts from Paul Hindemith's "Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber". Probably because they are quite challenging, and really show a tuba player's control of the low register.

It is tough to play this part without sounding muddy on the tuba. I try to think light when playing it, even though it is a strong, powerful part.

I am playing on my Yorkbrunner CC tuba. There is quite a lot of valve noise because the valves were on the same level as the camera's microphone. They really don't sound that loud usually.

I don't know who you're trying to kid. You have never been a professional tuba player. Playing in community orchestra/band isn't professional. I would expect this level of playing to come from an ok high school student. Sell you tubas and stop wasting your time playing.

hi tubadylan! In one post you said you studied the tuba to become an orchestral pro. I'd like to know if you ever took part in an orchestral audition and, if so, you ever went beyond the first round....

Yes and yes. But now I'm a Sabbath observer, and being that I do not work Friday evening through Saturday, I can no longer be an orchestral player. Unless of course I move to Israel, which I'm not planning until Christ's return.

I know...surprised me too when I first heard. Sam Pilafian and Pat Sheridan actually recommend this. Noisy valves can be avoided though. But I should have clarified...there IS a difference from stoccato fingers and slamming your fingers. Its also whatever works best for you.

Why do you people hate based on a youtube video? I actually think Mr.Dylan is an exceptional tubist; he is a pretty good player and his interpretations feature alot of musicality that many newer musicians have yet to understand.

this is really helpful. i am working on this piece with my high school band and it gets rather frustrating with how muddy i sound playing this sometimes

I think he is a good musician and who are u to judge who is really a professional or not I've heard of him way back as a good musician and anyways who in there right mind would buy a $20,000 tuba and there not a professional or once was a professional and don't want to get rid of their horns obviously your not a good enough musician to not know any great tubists besides those few you named so just shut up and leave the guy alone and keep your negative comments to yourself.

It is bad recording equiptment---I know this guy. He studied under all the guys you mentioned
