Anthony Jegu is an artist whose relief sculptures can be translated as an echo from his own personal Neverland. They are fantastically reconstructed from his turbulent childhood. Jegu is interested in navigating the sub-conscious to bring life to images of forgotten memories and influences both real and imagined.

His relief sculptures are a manifestation of primordial images that look like capricious fossils excavated from a wayward Hades. These elaborate figures are layered in a Labyrinth of passages. Octopuses, alligators and troll skulls, are imposing and dark yet whimsical, sometimes appearing humorous and satirical. Although they look familiar to us, as if from some ancient Mayan or Aztec civilization, they are mostly implausible having never existed except in Jegu's creative time machine.

As a sculptor, painter, draftsman, and video director-Anthony Jegu's utilizes unlimitedcreative resources pushing the limit to realize obscure images with a myriad of interpretations. Jegu's body of work reveals his idiosyncratic childhood. The perception of death and regeneration animates his narrative characters. Octopuses are a dominant symbolic figure in occult circles. Jegu uses them like Kraken or mythical sea monsters or as a mark of "The Beast" which suggest the destructive tendencies of a New World dis-Order.

Anthony's thought provoking sculptures allow us freedom, openness and creative interpretation. He uses pigments that give his surfaces the impression of a metallic patina.
His network of passages and hedges are balanced and symmetrical suggesting a cryptic puzzle in which the viewers must to find their exit. Ultimately, Jegu wants to share his experience of emotional revelation while allowing the individual interpretation of each viewer.

Anthony Jegu was born and raised in Paris, 1977. He currently lives and works in Malibu, California.
