I originally intended Instrucarp YouTube Channel as a site to put visual representations of my own music on; but being off sick from work after coming out of hospital for a couple of nights gives you time to noodle around.
This video is a compilation taken from Southern Steam 1897 - 1967; a very interesting video for trainspotters and locomotive train enthusiasts, showing archive footage of an era that even I remember.
Trains and stations do not have the same excitement and atmosphere for me these days; they just seem to harbour hoodies and knob ends making a nuisance of themselves, late at night on a station I do not feel safe anymore!
The soundtrack to this video is a lovely song by Marillion called 'This Train is My Life'. Unfortunately I managed to goof up the end of the song in this clip and it fades out sharply missing a perfect ending - Grrrrrr!
The morning after I last saw Marillion perform this song, Keyboard player Mark Kelly had the misfortune of meeting my wife Carole and myself on Bournemouth Station. He had a day off from gigging and his train to Oxford was cancelled as it stopped at the platform in front of us. We spoke a little and eventually another train came and we all got into the same carriage. Mark chose sensibly to choose a seat away from us and nodded off to sleep. We got off at Southampton to make another connection and we saw Mark through the window still asleep as the train pulled away. If only I'd taken a video clip of him, I could have put it in this video!
Apologies to Marillion fans for the abrupt ending; but to those who aren't fans and like this song - well you'll jolly well have to buy the blighter to hear how it ends won't you!
@somauk Thanks Somauk!
Best wishes,
John.
