  • @ellencor: You got it. SL is all about performing asynchronously. In a virtual-global- work-environment, delay, wait, misalignment are all transformed into a continuous space-time system of co-ordination and data-integration. I foresee even a single virtual-work space from which everyone can play all societal roles, as we age biologically and morph into many roles, without ever having to miss a meeting, a message even when we are asleep.

  • hoooly shit?

  • :)yeppp

  • This is both weird and stupid. Simple Webcam chatting is fine, NOT SL.

  • @tncbbthositg The reason they can't "just meet in a conference room like everybody else" is because they're located on four different continents. With a global company, it is common to never meet co-workers face-to-face. It was a year before I met my direct manager after a re-organization. And, this isn't about automating the onboarding process. It's about enriching it and personalizing it.

  • As a 25 year HR veteran, this is TRULY silly, an example of a big corporation trying to find a business use for a gee-whiz technology. I understand the need to appeal to millenials, but having new employees virtually walk around and teleport is a time waster compared to clicking on net meetings in progress on a simple portal. IBM needs to go back to the drawing board on this one...you're waaay off what people are looking for in automating employee onboarding!

  • If I'm sitting in a chair at my computer, why would I make my avatar walk around, fly, and teleport from place to place? Isn't that a lot of wasted time? What good does it do me to have the "interpersonal interaction" through second life when I don't actually get to meet these people? Why can't we just meet in a conference room like everybody else does? Finally, what do I want with a virtual IBM shirt and why didn't anybody have to take their clothes off to put the shirt on?

  • Emerald Software Group seems to be the best solution in the market for Employee Onboarding right now. They simply have the best transactional onboarding system around.

  • Looks like this on my PC - maybe your PC hardware needs updating.

  • That is in no way what second life is or looks like

you need to go back to s/l and show something what is more real to second life.Maybe look up

A M Radio then you could put this in the proper light.
