Cessna 206 Turbo Stationair arriving runway 23 at one of my favorite destinations, Cedar Key! 1.6 mile scenic walk from the ramp to the restaurants. Be the spectacle to the locals as every resident comes out to see you and your plane. Watch out for the the local teenage girls who like to play Fast and Furious in their golf carts, "dawgz!" ;)

  • What an awesome location. There must be a way to get rid of the propellor. What are you filming with?

  • Nothing extravagant-- Kodak Zi6 on a homemade tripod. When I used to film on my Canon SX 100IS using movie mode, the propeller didn't show up like this. Usually at lower RPM, the effect isn't as noticeable (see Boca Raton or Flagler HD videos.)...I believe the lighting also has an effect. Takeoff videos are the same as this video, with the propeller effect going on, but a touch more exaggerated.

  • What frame rate is it recording at? Does it have a frame/interlace mode on it to try switching between. It may make a difference to the way it processes the image. Interlaced may be better as it looks like it is capturing "too" good a frame and not blending it. We did a lot of tests but so far not had a problem and we film in both frame and interlaced depending on the look we are after. Great location though!

  • It's set at 30fps and has an option for 60. I've tried the 60 and it is no better. Peculiar enough, if I put the camcorder behind the sun visor and film through there, the effect is almost fully eliminated.

  • Do you have a manual focus option. It seems unlikely but autofocus may be confused by the propellor. Bit baffled on that. Soz.

  • Unfortunately it doesn't. Thanks for your help, though.

  • Love this place!

  • A perfect short landing with stall warning on! Cedar Key is my favorite airfield, often you can see crashed airplanes there. The tire traces on the runway end, somtimes ending in the water, are telling you stories.

  • The prop effect is from the camera's sensor type. CCD sensors image the entire picture at one instance, leaving a normal looking prop or 'prop blur' depending on the shutter. Cameras that use a CMOS sensor (most new HD cameras) image the picture line by line and several milliseconds may have passed from the time the camera imaged the top of the frame to the bottom of the frame. The effect is called rolling shutter. Its a common unfortunate side-effect of people wanting things cheap.

  • I just noticed that I have some of the same problems in my movies as well...... Hmmmmm???!!??

  • Back again..... :o)

I still don't think its the Propeller! I have noticed that the "lines" extend past the propeller-range and also on the hood! Could be the mike and the laud noice? Have you tried to cover the mike ?

    Have a great day...overthere!

  • Hey n654pd,

To bad about the "prop-effect"! Like the video and was actually on the same runway about 6 weeks ago. Youcan check my video taken with the Canon hg21.

I actually doubt it has anything to do with the prob - I think you need to have the cam checked! Something is interfering but what? The generator? But it should not be like that! You always fly the same aircraft?

    Good luck

  • Oh my god, this video in HD is orgasmic :O
