Gillian Welch - Wrecking Ball
No video, just the song.
The final track from the album Soul Journey.

"Was riding high until the '89 quake
hit the Santa Cruz Garden Mall
like a wrecking ball"

  • oldtimesound, Gillian Welch did write this song. The song written by Neil Young and covered by Emmylou Harris on her eponymous mid-nineties CD has the same title but is a completely different song both lyrically and musically. Listen to both again and compare them!

  • there are a shitload of 'wrecking ball" songs--Gillian wrote this one

  • This so reminds me of The Waterboys song, Bang on the Ear. This and Nobody knows my name are my favourite songs from Soul Journey.

  • Anybody know the chords?

  • @oregonghostwave This isnt the same 'Wrecking ball' that Neil wrote (and which Emmylou also covered)

  • I loved everything about this song!

  • This is just a great song.

  • Everytime you download a song from mediaoutletonline a kitten will be put to death. Please don't download from them if you love kittens.

  • Thanks to whoever put this up: I made a cover this morning, and not a very good one, but if you're into covers by amateur musicians of songs you like, check out

I have probably listened to this song 100 times or more in a 5 day period at one time in my life. Love everything about it, as well as (Time) The Revelator. What a great talent and artist, can't wait to see her my absolute fave Neil at the Buffallo Springfield show up in S.B. :)

  • Bob Dillon with a twist! Not Bad. Not Bad At All !

I'm an Old B-3 guy from the 60's . Really enjoyed this!

    Thank You Gilian !
