Bakovic and Hylton lead Rams to win over Gryphons

In a game that saw 53 personal fouls called, the Ryerson Rams men's basketball team defeated the Guelph Gryphons 92-75 at Kerr Hall on Friday night. The Rams outplayed the Gryphons in three of the four quarters and took control in the second half en route to the 17-point victory.

The Rams built up a 20-point lead in the second quarter before Guelph shot their way back into the game, going on a 19-2 run powered by five three-pointers. Ryerson took over in the second half however, rebuilding their 20-point lead before coasting to the win.

CIS scoring leader Boris Bakovic (Toronto) led the way for Ryerson, recording a double-double with a game-high 35 points and 12 rebounds. N'Kruma Hylton (Rexdale, Ont.) also had an excellent performance for the Rams with 19 points, seven assists, and five rebounds, including a highlight reel slam dunk in the second quarter that swung the momentum for Ryerson. Joey Imbrogno (Toronto) turned in a strong game on both ends of the court, finishing with 13 points and four rebounds. Ryan McNeilly (Toronto) also contributed 13 points in the win.

Jay Mott (Burlington, Ont.) led Guelph offensively with 14 points, including four three-pointers. Nick Pankerichan (Hamilton, Ont.) added 13 points and five rebounds for the Gryphons, while Charles Agyemang (Toronto) poured in 13 points. Duncan Milne (Calgary, Alta.) netted 10 points before fouling out.

Ryerson shot a very impressive 56.4 percent from the floor compared to 40 percent from Guelph. The Gryphons outshot Ryerson from three-point range, 37 percent to 23.1 percent but the Rams won the battle on the boards, 32-21.

"I thought we played really well, beating them three out of four quarters," said Rams head coach Glenn Taylor, adding that the win was especially nice for him because it was his first victory over Guelph since coming to Ryerson four years ago.

Ryerson's record improves to 4-4 with the victory while the Gryphons fall to 3-4. The Rams host Brock (4-3) tomorrow afternoon at Kerr Hall.
