Despite film industry promises to self-police tobacco promotion on screen, tobacco brands popped up in more than 40 percent of Indian films released since 2004. That is almost triple the 15 percent incidence observed before the enforcement of a comprehensive ban on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship. As per the research study by the Chandigarh based NGO, Burning Brain Society and supported by WHO, 89 percent of the films released and analyzed after the tobacco advertising ban included generic or branded tobacco imagery. Complete study on "Tobacco in Movies and Impact on Youth" is available at http://www.burningbrain.org/tobaccoinmovies

  • @Kinesis17 95% of all Punjabi kids in CANADA know almost every Indian movie, and know of every Drama on Sony/ATN, etc... the vast majority smoke as well. The school near my condo you see Indian girls age 13-14 sharing smokes on the way home, then chewing Ilechi (Cardamom) when they near home so their aunties can't smell cigarette on their breath....

  • How many youth watch Indian movies in the first place? Think of that before making a useless debate on how horrible our morals are as smokers.

  • SMOKE KILL, I KNOW, I SMOKE SINCE 1990, I HAVE 34, 20 YEARS SMOKING, I TINK I HAVE CANCER, I HOPE DONT BE TOO LATE TO STOP KILLING MY SELF.

  • the thing is most ppl supporting smoking in movies, themselves smoke, my point to them is dude if you smoking n killing, atleast be apologetic then fight the world bout it

  • watch?v=NauR_ugGSzg

Every Indian smoker needs to watch this !

  • We live in a free-market society. I'm not arguing that the government should force all establishments to allow smoking, but rather to let the owner of the establishment choose. Just like restaurants that cater to vegetarians, there will always be restaurants that cater to the non-smoker because there are profits to be made.

  • From what you said previously, if you had it your way smokers could smoke anywhere ie all resturants etc which means non smokers couldn't enjoy entertainment outside their own homes and participate inthe community anywhere without inhaling smoke, so your argument has absolutely no substance.

  • You obviously do not understand the definition of "Hypocrite". The cure to your problems is so simple, if you do not like cigarette smoke, then do not go to a place that allows smoking. Sir, you are an inconsiderate, self-righteous, selfish, self-absorbed individual with the brain capacity of rat shit. Having this discussion with you is like trying to teach algebra to a fish. Oh, and thank you for assuming that I smoke.

  • No if i was being hypocritical here I'd be walking up to people and coughing on them and expect them to walk away, the way you light up next to people and expect them to walk away, even if they got there first, you see if we let people smoke indoors like you want them to there is nowhere for non smokers to go but breath in smoke. If you smoke you are an idiot so get the fuck away from us and stop making your addiction everybody elses problem !
