  • frontlobo - you are right. The my hand was ksust slight further back which allowed the snake to get a hold of me.

I have picked up dozens of copperheads. This one moved just as I was picking it up and did not get an ideal hold.

I did learn that very small snakes -- like this one was -- are much more difficult to pick up than the big ones.

  • Leave these creatures alone and they will leave YOU alone. A copperhead is not that much more dangerous than any other wild animal (most wild animals ARE dangerous to people if cornered) and they aren't that anxious to bite you either. Leave it be and enjoy its beautiful coloration this species is a jewel of North American fauna.

  • @ucntstopthis even the experts get bit every now and again

  • @Jeffhamons yea ive held some massive venomous snakes before but the most nerve wracking one ive held was a 5" pygmy rattler

  • So instead of moving the crowd away from the snake, you decided to move the venomous snake away from the crowd by picking it up?!

  • The "poisonous" snakes are out there.... The word you are looking for is Venemous! Morons...

  • @ohai2u yeah, because it's a new development, a bunch of people decide to build homes on their habitat so what do you expect?

  • just thinking about fangs piercing into my hand while trying to pick up a snake makes my entire arm tingle

  • @lukeslandspeeder Sometimes it has to be done.

  • Don't pick up copperheads unless you want to get bit. ignore them and they'll ignore you 99% of the time

  • a lot of misinformation there that could get someone killed. just what you'd expect from moronic journalists.
