I continue to explore Finzi's musical orchards!

Finally got this HD version uploaded! Immersed as most of us are in the crazy turmoil of noise and perpetual bad news, take heart!

"Deep roots are not reached by the frost" - JRR Tolkien.

Here are three of Gerald Finzi's Five Bagatelles, composed originally for clarinet and piano duo - arranged here by Lawrence Ashmore.

The three inner bagatelles are represented, in the following order:

II Romance
III Carol
IV Forlana

The images here are of England's Peak District in Derbyshire, which I took at Christmas 2008 and 2009.

Great Longstone's 13th century church features in this clip, as does the Jacobean Tissington Hall and the Norman chancel arch of the church of St. Mary at Tissington.

Northern Sinfonia
Conducted by Howard Griffiths
Clarinettist: Robert Plane

  • I've always loved these pieces (and many other Finzi compositions) - Thank you so much for creating this beautiful montage of exquisite photos; it was a great pleasure to watch!

  • @mrcctq I wouldn't know about that, but he speaks most eloquently here. Thank you for your comment.

  • @elainebmack I understand. It's a bit of an ordeal for one's soul to live in places which aren't "home" - in one's deeper heart and mind. I really miss Britain for the similar reasons. For me, I long for the tangible feelings England evokes - of ancient peoples, their buildings, and landscapes shaped by them. I'm sure this isn't at all unique. And I suppose it's all about being "homesick"!. Best wishes.

  • @AntPDC .Thanks for your response. Arabia is not a bad place to live, and there are indeed many possibilities and opportunities, but for a person with a four seasons soul like me endless sun and heat are a little hard to take at times. Postings such as yours quench my thirst for cool and quiet. When I leave Arabia for good I will treat myself to a trip to the green and beautiful British Isles.

  • @poonchop Thank you very much poonchop! As you can see, I am catching up, and your comment is most welcome!

  • @elainebmack It was my pleasure, increased by your most touching comments! It was good of you to take the trouble to let us have your insights. Very best wishes. I hope Arabia is being kind to you. I'd imagine there are huge possibilities.
