Compare this to other uploads from CD. Detail is similar but the overall effect from the others is more fatigue for the listener. Warmth is important! Thanks again!

Australia's own 'Easybeats', nice to see our countrymen represented on your channel Evan! Teac sounds great...

Amazing video and editing skills you have! One question, how did you get rid of tape "hiss" for the audio?

@gilmour509 You can still use the 'high bias' tapes on that machine. It will be just a bit brighter than standard but not by enough to become an issue. :) JC

@BadEditPro The guy i got it from on craigslist was very cool too, i spent like 3 hours with him while he burnt me a few essential jazz cd's that he said i needed to leave with.I paid only $50 for it, and it included a the optional dust cover, and new capstan belt. The S model is the first incarnation of the 4010 series, and lacks the ferrite heads and bias switch of the last 4010gsl for high bias tape. But i am blown away by the sound of this machine w/ normal tape! thanks for sharing JC! Evan

It's interesting to watch this machine in action because this was the first open reel machine I ever owned. This one is in such good shape! The one I had was 15 years old when i got it in the mid 80's. I can't believe you found one more than 25 years later that look better than the one I had. Very cool. :) JC

@BadEditPro hmm that's very interesting. i've found that while making a recording, if i switch between tape and source, the recorder's recording sounds like the highs are a tad brighter than the source. i thought the added brightness was because of the machines 7.5 EQ. i know the machine can also be manually biased for 'high bias' tape, but i don't have to equipment that the service manual calls for to properly do it. i heard it can be done be 'ear', but i'm happy with the machine as is. @gilmour509 The audio coming back from tape is usually a bit sweeter because of saturation in the mids. It sounds very good to me in the videos. Yes, you can align by ear. I've done it. However, you really need an alignment tape to get the playback head and amp right first or you're just poking around in the dark. Teacs hold alignment very well, though. Your machine is probably OK. Besides, the sound changes from tape to tape. You never can get it perfect. :) JC
