Activity title: Spelling Bee
Skills used: Listening and Speaking
Materials: PPT and a Bell
Preparations:
• Prepare some verbal wound words.
• Make PPT including pictures, situational dialogues and English definitions of words.
• Put the bell on the teacher's table.
Directions:
• Make 5 groups of about 6-7 students.
• Each group will consist of mix level students, so that all groups have a fair chance in the
spelling bee.
• Each group should decide which member will attempt to answer each type of question.
• First, ask the verbal sound questions. Next, ask the picture questions. Next, ask the situational dialogue questions. Finally, ask the meaning of English definition questions.
• Let the students come to the front one by one from each group and stand around table.
• Present the questions using PPT.
• Students who ring the bell first have the chance to answer.
• Each student has a time limit of 5 seconds to answer.
• If the student doesn't answer within 5 seconds or his/her answer is not correct, other
group members can try to answer.
• If the student says the right word and spells it correctly, his/her group gets 1 point.
Considerations:
• We can use the words which students have learnt in the textbook to review previous lessons.
• The questions can be presented with verbal sounds, pictures, situational dialogues and
meanings of English definitions.
