Leon was interviewed by a Fiji TV station reporter during his trip to Tarawa. He explains the reason for his return to Tararwa, 66 years after his first "visit" as a Naval landing craft officer, landing Marines on Red Beach. Red Beach is where Leon saw scores of his countrymen die under murderous Japanese gunfire. Red Beach now is covered with garbage. This hallowed ground has become an insult to the memory of all who fought and died there in defense of our country. Leon is bound and determined to have the garbage removed from Red Beach and to take other action to honor the memory of those who fell there.
