Great broadcaster, and a better players. Won a batting in 1949, edging out the Great Ted Williams. 10 time All Star, and a fine country gentleman.

I was very lucky to meet George Kell at a book signing. What a wonderful man, great ballplayer and announcer. Rest in peace Mister George Kell. Thank you for posting this lovely tribute!

nothing compared to watching a tigers game on channel 4 with george and al kaline and the tiger either having a ice bag on its head whimpering like a cat when we lost, or roaring and grabbing the bat with its teeth swinging when we won...never forget the 1987 call when we won the divison agains the blue jays..."tapper to the mound...this could be it....THE TIGERS WIN IT! THE TIGERS WIN IT!"

Used to listen to George Kell (we called him George Swell) and Ernie Harwell on my transistor radio back in the 60s. Good times. Good memeories. He's not only in the Baseball Hall of Fame as a player, but also as a broadcaster...missed by all!

" And they're going to wave him in "
Another voice silenced from my youth.
Harwell, Kell, Carey defined TIGER Baseball. Well God waved him in today, and we will miss him.
From Detroit to Heaven. Goodbye Mr, Kell.
We will never forget you.

As a kid I couldn't ask for a better time to grow up a Tiger fan. We got to listen to George Kell, Al Kaline and Ernie Harwell call games...not many people are so lucky!
RIP George & Mark "The Bird"
