@Bakuraouzoku I have a 32pfl9603 hooked up to my digital amp via digital out on the TV and it definitely only passes 2 channel pcm to the amp even though the TV display says Dolby Digital 3/2 when playing a DVD or BD I've checked it on two different amps. Perhaps the 9703 is different. To get surround from the amp, I need to connect the digital out from the BD player to the amp. Then it works fine. As long as DNM is turned off on the TV, there is only a minuscule lip-sync delay.

@jesperc20 Digital Broadcasting has the issue as well, I know from my use of converters and such, it's not specific to the processor in homes.

@sicknick1 My components other then receiver show 5.1 DD displayed, but the Technics I have does not. So I know it's only ProLogic because it shows that display and there is no discrete surround. My jack appears the same from Viore brand HDTV, coax/RCA style output labeled Sony./Philips Digital InterFace SPDIF

How about via the HDMI and an HDTV using Xbox360?!? That is a toughie

@sicknick1 Ok cool.. Its strange how philips does nothing to highlight that the tv does multi-channel pass trough.. especially considering how rare that feature is in a tv-set. I also had to contact philips customer service just to find out if it was stereo or multi channel on my tv's spdif out (they said digital stereo). They could improve in the clear information department!
Hi, I have a 47PFL9603 hooked up to a HTS 8140 ambisound (amplifier + speakers) they are both connected with coax L/R and I was wondering exactly what cable you were using to connect your tv with your amp. My amp has an Digital coax in slot, is this where I connect the amp and the TV where that yellow cable is on your video?

@Bakuraouzoku
Yes, the yellow cable with the gray gaffertape on it is the digital coax cable. You can re-use the cable from your coax l/r setup, just use both the red or white connection, as long as it is the same on both ends ofcourse. It's the same connector, a simpele tulip-style plug. This will only work if both of them have a coax spdif connection, make sure you select digital audio input on your amp.

But are you sure that the output is multi-channel? Because I'm looking at a diagram (last page in the manual) of a 47pfl9664 which should be pretty much identical to yours, and the diagram only illustrates: "2 channel Audio Amp.". Also.. the manual indicates nothing about multi-channel pass trough.

@jesperc20
Yeah, i'm 100% sure its multi-channel. My yamaha amp only shows DTS or Dolby Digital when the input is a 5.1/6.1 input through its digital input. Also I can hear the system working in real surround sounds.
The specifications from the tv are probably commenting on its internal amplifier for the tv speakers? Those suck anyway.
