Special thanks to those who forward / share my videos, your support is a gift well cherished.

This last year has been difficult for many of us. Here or there in our lives, we stumble into dark places. This song is about a constant struggle with depression--about acknowledging the darkness, shaking its hand and saying, "Yes, you too are a part of me and I need you."

how many times do i have to tell you
don't look over your shoulder
i'm not behind you anymore
I'll do or die
but I didn't, and you made it very clear
there's nothing worth dying in you for

fell in the dark and i liked it
like the album The Queen Is Dead
and letting bigmouth strike again;
but I'm Joan of Arc with a walkman
bludgeoned on a hotel bed
the sex was better in the end.

why, father, why, in the darkness
have you turned your back on me
was it something that I said
I haven't tried to release you
from the bonds of a prodigal son
no--no, no more forgiving anyone,

forgiving me--it's done.

  • This was so cliche. Another fag with daddy issues, who insists on blaming his father (the darkness) for everything. How original. :/ I'm sure you had a better childhood than most. Get over it.

  • @HomeMoiveMan If you've read "fag with daddy issues" in this, then perhaps they are your own. In the stanza I assume you are referring to, I'm speaking as Christ did on the cross to God; not my biological father. I certainly don't require people to like what I do and typically I enjoy an intelligent negative comment which helps to maintain my humility and sense of humor about myself; yours, however, will offend people who read it and I think that speaks poorly of your character. much love, matt

  • @matthewwoolfrey hahahahahahahahaha! thank you for a wonderful and intelligent response to a hateful comment that does not grow more hate.

  • Awesome work!! I love you!!

  • Oh my dear Matthew ~ what an artistic performance & exposure of your precious, oft' hurt & tormented soul. You so don't deserve any of that, but then, NOBODY deserves suffering ~ even God claims this (not in the heavily MANipulated Bible though of course! There, the MANipulative $ods make Him out to be some evil, wicked, vindictive bastard ~ which He's NOT!) ~ He ADORES YOU & even me too! :)

Everything in life happens for a reason ~ we'll all have the opportunity to discover our own one day.

  • Very creative songwriting, performance and video! You are very talented! :)
