London & North Eastern Railway A4 No: 4492 Dominion of New Zealand (BR No: 60013) departs Victoria, on time, at the head of the Cathedral's Express to Bristol Temple Meads. The loco was originally built at Doncaster by the LNER in 1937, numbered 4464 and named Bittern. By the way, Dominion of New Zealand was also built at Doncaster in 1937, 6 months earlier than Bittern. Bittern worked in the North-east of England for 26 years of its 29 year working life for LNER and BR. In 1963 when steam was banned south of Peterborough Bittern was moved to Scotland where it finished its time with BR in 1966. Bittern was sold into private ownership. Bittern was restored to main line condition in 2007. This year Bittern was re-built to look like Dominion of New Zealand in its 1937 condition of garter blue and what a splendid sight it makes. The date at Victoria is 26th May 2011

  • Nice one. Thanks for sharing that. The 2nd clip was a beauty. That's a like. Please take the time to have a look of my footage of 4492 leaving Victoria earlier that day. I'd appreciate a comment as you are much more experienced at filming than I am. Thanks
