My family is all from Floyd County, Virginia, buried up in the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. For 20 years or more the old General Store has been the site of the "Friday Night Jamboree," a hugely popular dance and live bluegrass and old timey show. I caught this footage the last time I was back there. Sorry it's just snippets, I wish I had shot more video, but I didn't want to hold the video camera, I wanted to do some flatfootin'!
Looks like soooooo much fun!! For people of all ages! That is wonderful to see, something the whole family could enjoy. Hope to get there sometime!!! Thank you for posting.

Well, it doesn't matter what people say. Its your heritage. Its wonderful, to me, to see folks of all ages on the floor flat-footin together. It doesn't matter if there's differences in their backgrounds, etc. Flat-footin is the bond that brings you together. :) I bet you're a heck of a flat-footer yourself :) Are u in this clip?

I've lived in this area all my short life, specifically in Ferrum, about thirty minutes from Floyd. Also my dad had always been a very big fan of bluegrass (he plays the banjo, played with Del McCoury for a short time) so you could say I've beend raised on bluegrass, home cookin, runnin barefoot in the woods, and flat footin. I love goin up to the country store on fridays, and seeing the same 'usuals' dancing on the floor. Some people may say we are country hicks, but I DO love the heritage!
