The amazing wealth out there in asteroids may even mean we could eventually stop mining Earth alltogether, since the yields from asteroids is far greater and will be far more profitable.

What a wonderful 'accidental' side-effect. Our industrial greed for more profit and resources may in fact help the environment on our own planet. The future is bright :)

Where did I say that I wanted a nation to hoard the resources? I want the people who mine the resources to own them because if they didn't mine them they would be left out there and would do nobody any good. The way it works is the farmers own their crops, the miners own their ores and the trades people own their labour and we all trade for what the other has. People who want something for nothing (what I call greed) like you rely on charity or violence.

Take from them? So you don't agree that the resources in our solar system belongs to all of humanity? You really think it should be restricted to and hoarded by one or a handful of corporations or nations?

My point was, it is very important that what is mined is made available on the global market so to speak. This is space, the resources are not the sovereign right of one nation to hoard. They'd make an even bigger profit from that, i'm merely saying it is necessary for the good of everyone.

They haven't even left the ground and you are already thinking about how you can take from them. How about you let them keep what they make and you benifit from the lower cost of living that will result from it. As for poverty: take a look at the governments of those countries.

And furthermore, imagine a sort of global tobin tax, extending outwards to profits made outside earths atmosphere as well. Even a mere 0.05% could be enough to bring the world out of poverty.

It really has massive implications for life on Earth, if it is done right.
