PARMA Recordings (USA) recording session of an excerpt of POLYHYMNIA for multi-divisi string orchestra and soloists, depicting of one of the fabled Nine Muses of Greek antiquity, written by Jonathan Little. Polyhymnia ("She of Many Hymns", or Muse of Sacred Poetry), is a many-layered Lamentation for String Orchestra, where the melodic thread often weaves between all parts. According to some ancient sources, Polyhymnia (sometimes pronounced or abbreviated to "Polymnia") is believed to have invented the lyre, and is also said to be an encourager of the dance. Composition made possible thanks to a Musicians Benevolent Fund Professional Development Award (UK). Publisher: Wirripang (full score and parts). Performing Rights: ASCAP. Recording release date: late in 2011 on the Navona label of PARMA Recordings.
