I think he shoud have. That IS the game that made Bradshaws career go, no doubt. He was considered un predictable beofore. Made great plays here and there but screws up on many occasions. If the Vikings go up and the Steelers have to play catch up, it's a whole new ball game.

  • @6400az Cox should've stuck to being a chiropractor lol!

The Steelers D was great that day, but The Vikes still had their chances. I do think if The Vikings went up in that game that they would've won. Bradshaw was still not great, at that point, and I think if he had the pressure on him, of leading a Steelers comeback they would've fallen short.

Bradshaw really gained conifdence after SB IX, and his career took off

  • even though i AM a HUGE dallas cowboys fan, i actually enjoy seeing the colts win superbowl v if for no other reason than because the colts wanted so BADLY to avenge their defeat at the hands of the new york jets in superbowl III and i can only imagine that the GREAT johnny unitas (#19) DID NOT want to be remembered as "not being able to win the big one." the same could also be said for earl morral (#15) and bubba smith. GREAT superbowl, i only WISH i could have been an adult back in 1971.

A lot of people focus on he Steeler defense, and how they dominated, but the Vikings left at least 2 TD's on the field that day.Harris, did get his yards , but he had close to 40 carries. The Brown call came at the worse possible moment, right after the blocked punt TD. Cox.... oh God !! He was awefull, but never more so than in SB IX. He was 2 of 24 career, from outside the 50. From 74 to 77 , he missed 17 extra points !!! Also missed many last second FG's.

  • @6400az HAHA at Larry Brown! You're EXACTLY right! I've slowed that thing down, numerous times, and stopped it when that ball comes out. It is one frame!

Still, 2 officials called it a fumble, and then Ed marion comes from across the field and overrules them. The fans were pissed!

Fred Cox sucked LOL! He missed FG in SB IX too that would've put The Vikings up 3-0.

The Vikes really should've won SB 9. Bradshaw only had like 94 yards passing. Franco had the big game with 158yds rushing

Everything the Vikings did was somehow bad. After the blocked punt TD, Cox promplty missed the etra point. THAT is demoralizing,I'd take 2 FG rather than a td and missed PAT.

The Charlie West fumble was a disaster, very similar to he Bill Brown muff in SB IX. In both cases they happened because of a short KO and both led to TD's. It was THAT fumble that led to the 65 toss power trap play.

The Brown fumble, NFL Films shows the ball comig out 1 frame beore his butt hits the turf.

  • @6400az Definitely true about being demoralizing at the one, especially when you just got a big penalty that went in your favor. Miami really killed you guys though. Kind of ironic, you guys fumbled inside the 6, 3 times, in 3 different Super Bowls by 3 different running backs. What are the odds of that? Plus Charlie West fumbled a kick off return at like the 15.

The fumble in SB XI killed you guys the most I think, but SB IX was there for the taking. Larry Brown fumbled but wasn't called

  • @GialloHorror

Your right, but the point I wanted to make was the consistent pattern of Vikings SB mistakes.Even Foreman, was'nt imune to fumbling.

I know against the Steelers,Foremans' fumble led to the blocked punt. But still, a fumble at the 1 yrd line is still demoralizing to a team. The fumble in SB VIII, could have led to something.I hear what your saying about being stopped short, but if Reed hangs on, maybe his momentum carries him to a 1st down. Being down 17-0, had to go for a TD

  • @6400az Yeah I knew about them fumbling inside teh 6 btu I don't think 2 of them really mattered. I mean, in SB VIII it was 4th and inches, and The Vikes got stopped short anyway. The fumbled ball ended up in 1st down territory, but again why wasn't foreman handling the ball there? In SB IX Foreman did fumble the ball at the 2, but then Matt Blair blocked the punt for the TD so the fumble didn't really cost them.

The one against The Raiders hurt bad. They should've been up 7-0 for sure

  • @GialloHorror

Maybe even 14-2 as they did have he ball inside the Steeler 25 early in the 1st quarter.........they ended with " O " points.

I've never heard of that reasoning by Meredith, but it was a weird exchange no doubt. It certainly is a posibility since the ball may have been wet, but like you say Osborne never even looked for the ball.
