Pilot Observes "Plume" From Beneath WTC 1 During Collapse

During the BBC documentary "Clear The Skies", a 9/11 interceptor pilot describes a "plume" exiting from the bottom of World Trade Center tower 1 during its collapse on September 11, 2001.

Plumes are generally expelled air or other matter.

Major ground level activity within WTC 1 during the time of collapse conflicts with U.S. government investigator's views that the World Trade Center towers structurally failed between the 78th and 99th floors.

@MultiMediaJockey You are referring to the "squibs" up the side of the building, coming from the mechanical floors.  The car fires are well-docuimented from immediately prior to the collapse.

It's nothing but compressed air blowing through the tower's elevator's & stairway's shafts during the collapse + presumingly dust & smoke from fires in the lower floors below ground after death crashing elevators with burning jet fuel... :S

you don't have to be an expert to ask a question and make an observation. If you really paid attention, you would notice that they are refering to the underground.. not surrounding area.

Given the reports of explosions and massive destruction in the basements of course there will be a plume observed coming from the base of the towers - visible even from an overflying jet or a camera across the river.
