In its latest report on global terrorism, the US state department says that despite Iran's pledge to help stabilise Iraq, the Iranians continue to provide logistical and financial support to militant groups which are targeting coalition and Iraqi security forces. Why the hell would anyone with a tad bit of brain power expect Iran not to have influence over Iraq or Afghanistan?

Apart from the fact that these countries (amongst others) are in the natural geographic sphere of influence, they also share cultural, religious and historical ties.

In fact these two countries were actually once IRAN, I guess now we know why they divided it when they did. Could they have invaded Afghanistan and Iraq if it was still part of Iran?
