Mini-profile on Helga Liné.

I love love love Helga. Here's a mini-profile of the beautiful Helga in six of her Sword & Sandal films, not counting the couple of Swashbuckling films she made in the same period.

I don't know exactly what I love about Helga but she stands out whenever she's on-screen. Exotic looking, statuesque and sexy, the German-born actress sure had screen presence. Her career never took off and she never became a leading actress like Sophia Loren which is a shame. Like so many other actors who starred in Peplums, Helga moved on to Spaghetti Westerns and EuroSpy in the 1960s and trashy Euro-cult flicks in 1970s and 80s. I always felt she was underused in secondary roles, rarely starring roles.

The scene when she stands up to the Ten gladiators in Triumph of the Ten Gladiators is one of the most effective Peplum scenes ever. The massive close-ups of her symmetrical face in Hercules & the Tyrants of Babylon are mesmerizing.

I saw her in one her horror films from the 1980s and I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't even recognized her. By then she had lost all of her exoticness. Oh well. Helga is still alive today.

Helga, where are you?
