I think the RX7 is going to be faster.
The RX8 is to big, the RX7 was made to beat Porsches, so it has better aerodynamics

Very true, the Rx-7 motor is lower compression so you can boost it way up there and produce 350-500 rear wheel hp and with some internal mods you can make 600+ hp. The RX-8 Renesis motor however makes more hp than all the other Rx-7's that didn't have turbos, but can't handle the boost the turbo models did so can only make 300-350 rear wheel hp, some say they have made 375-420 but I don't know how long the motor can take it. But the RX-8 motor was designed to be more reliable and last longer.

@VagaXt how old do you have to be?

I forgot to mention rx8 is the only car that cost $30,000 & beat in handling $80,000 cars ( vette & gt-r) not my opinion check "motor trend 2009" & "car & driver 2009"
if you check rx8club.com 100% rx8 owners from 2006 to 11 are in love with car no one complains about extra care & poor gas milage couse nice handling & smooth ride pays back. only some owners in 04 & 05 production had some bad experiences but mazda is taking care & rotary engine warranty go to 100k

I don't under stand some people trying to coment when they don't own a rx8 or at least drove it.some people saying rx7 handles getter than 8 . Do you think mazda is going to go worst? every new rotary engine is going to be better in general.some things trying to inprove life on engine will not be the same I had a rx7 turbo & was faster than my 8 but in handling rx8 beats rx7 + remember the consept was comfort & for my needs is perfect . check "rx8 mx5 my sport rides"

@Canmx120 love top gear, and the RX8, and the RX7... :p
don't know why i posted that comment, its been a year.. xD
But seeing this vid again gives me chills, great video!

@pmlopmlop I don't know figures off top of my head, but as for weight they're almost identical, and I think the rx8 comes in a very small bit lighter(if I'm wrong w/e, because they're still REALLY close)
As far as drag, they both have a drag coefficient of .31
Yea it'd be faster than the 8, but only because its got 40hp on the 8 and another 70ft-lbs of torque.
Slap a turbo on the 8 then we'll see ;)
You like top gear dont you? haha

Nice video mate! Which software did you use to embed one video into another?
Hey Sonny,
How did you get the camera mounted right by the tach?

There was a mounting point for a bullet cam to be attached to the windshield wiper lever.

I'm not a rotary owner, but I might go myself. The car in the video here is my friend's and I was merely borrowing it for the day.

that cam was nice, was that in MPH or KPH? i'm guessing by the speed it was in MPH? I've also got to say that I'd LOVE to be in your shoes in that moment...or should i say in your seat? I'd love to have access to a nice open track driving an RX8, i've got an RX7 myself, but not enough money for a brand new car! I enjoyed your video though! thanks for posting

Yep, the speedo is in MPH.
And about track events: you'd be surprised to find out how inexpensive track days can be. Usually for me, the entry fee's around $100-$200, depends on time of year, day of the week, and the track. Also, you don't need an uber-tuned car for it; I mean, look at the video you just watched (very near-stock RX-8). You just need a car that works properly.
