if I had access to one of those guitars, do you think I could play it without too much trouble? I guess you would have to check out my videos to see what I know on guitar. I know absolutely nothing about those things...

Musical ability certainly helps especially being a guitar player. The thing to get used to about a Steel guitar is that every string can move in pitch up or down using the pedals and Knee levers. This is what makes the Steel so unique and challenging the possibilities are endless !
