A kung fu form demonstration of Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu. I am not too sure but I believe this is Chu Gar.

  • I love how everyone watches a video and all of a sudden they are all YouTube ninjas and are the best fighters in the world.

  • I know your comment is kinda old... but still. Its not about "when would you do this?" or "how is that applicable" you learn forms to drill techniques in a more dynamic way, not to use them in a fight. Somone who takes a form to a fight, will lose. You take nothing to a fight, and in doing so, end up taking everything you need.

  • Which SPM form is this one? Thank you for posting.

  • @farorin no i understood you lol. My point was to show that the forms are the bones of a style. It makes every style unique.

Fighting is fighting..people are all different. Some people learn faster than others. Some are more talented. Some people are more creative. I guess not everyone understands the essence of Chinese martial arts. I used xuanmenjian in saber and it opened lots of feints and angular cuts for me. From slow to quick explosive cuts to good footwork for a change in tempos. :)

  • @ShuyuKoukin You misunderstand me, I am not saying there is no value in forms, I am just saying that when it comes to a fight, to try to consciously use your form doesn't work. if you properly read what i typed, you would see that I am suggesting that you practice a style and you practice the form, in order to be able to be liberated from it. I practice competetive Judo, and I practice the use of viking weaponry, I also used to box. Fighting is fighting dude. Forms have use, but arent everything

  • @farorin btw...saber fencing is hellishly fast...every cut from an experienced fencer can be 10x faster than a straight jab..how did you think i applied the forms in my bouts? It's called muscle memory. Practice makes perfect.

Stop opening that big mouth of yours and try it. Rephrasing Bruce Lees quotes doesn't do you any good. Because you weren't there and you've never done that. Go do some sports or even join a martial arts club. Your words are a joke to this saber fencer. ~_^

  • @farorin Old comment? That's your opinion. Muscle Memory right? So you think by using the style you feel constrained? Just because Bruce said that it doesn't mean that it's the universal truth.

You're saying this to someone whose been using the chentaijijian and the xuanmenjian style in saber fencing? The more I practice the form the more I understand the form. Why would it constraint us when its there to guide us? Unless someone don't understand the true essence behind the forms..get creative.

  • @ShuyuKoukin Old comment, but if I understand your response correctly, your disputing what I was saying, I was simply referancing the concept of "mind no mind", the idea that only when you are free from the constraints of form and every other thing that weighs down an accurate, powerful, speedy response. Its only when you can fight on "emptyness" or in more logical words, reflexive action and reaction, without being confined singularly to what you have been taught, you can handle any situation.

  • @farorin Since you already decided to pour everything away there's no reason to try to drink the same brand of tea anymore..am I right?

The moment you pour the tea down the drain is a sign that tea is not for you. ( ゚∀゚)
