big fireworks explosion Tacoma 09

Someone put a mortar in a tube Oops-Side-Up, so it didn't fly up, but burst at ground level. That sent sparks into the 5 gallon tub of mortars, with predictable results. That sent sparks into the entire neighborhood, including the 2nd tub of mortars which was covered with a wet blanket. More boom. No one got hurt, but a dry climbing vine caught fire on a gutter and had to be pulled down. This was about 30 seconds into the show, so we started with the finale. Notice the guy standing and watching from 10 feet. The explosion towers over him, must be over 25 feet high. I've been told he didn't run because he's blind! Either way it takes amazing nerves to stand still with that much noise and heat 2 feet away from you!

Sorry about the camera shake - survival instinct took over once the first sparks flew past. :-)
UPDATE: This footage will be featured in an upcoming reality TV show. More details when it happens. Film crew came to my house and interviewed me about it today. "Weren't yo uscared?" "No - that's me you hear laughing insanely on the video..."

Here's what really happen from the guys lighting the mortors and were n the flames. 1 mortor shot straight down into 1 of 3 buckets. The1st explosion went off and it wasnt bad, but the 2nd one was just....carzy epic you could say. It felt like it took 5 minutes to finish. My Dad (George) was the man standing in front of the flames cause he thought I got hit in the face (His son) and was down. My cousin ( Rob) was on the other side of the pallet with Bill. My Dad kicked the tree down too..

It looks pretty cool on camera, but I bet you had the best view of all! I think epic describes it pretty well. At least, I'll always remember it. One of the best fireworks displays ever!

This was actually at my uncles house in U.P. and the "Drunk" guy actually was blind and didnt know what was going on, so change the description. lol

So glad he wasn't hurt! Sorry for thinking he was drunk at first. We couldn't figure out why he was just standing there. PS - awesome show. I hope they do it again next year (only slower)
