I actually taught  myself how back in the late 80's. It's not very hard to do actually. Just jump in and read tutorials and manuals and play with the programs..... A LOT!

how do ii get a Wavefront Software thats running on SGI Hardware?

I have both of the SGI's I used to do this work and they already have Wavefront on them. 1 is a 4D35TG and the other machine is an Indego Extreem Alon. I have 21" SGI monitors as well.

You are so totally my idol right now. The fact that were able to create such wonderful renders with just wavefront on SGI's at that is amazing to me. The animations are a little slow for my taste but incredible nonetheless. I was trained formally in Maya but find that Zaxwerks 3D Invigorator takes so much guess work out of text creation and rendering that I've almost totally abandoned it in Maya. I hated that I spent more time troubleshooting the software rather than actually getting work done.
