Dallenbach Racing and Banks Power have teamed up to take on this year's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Driver Paul Dallenbach has set records on the mountain before, and this year he's aiming to be the first person to beat the 10 minute mark in the Unlimited class. Helping him get there are two Banks turbochargers, which boosted power output from a not-too-shabby 745 hp & 650 lb-ft to a whopping 1307 hp & 1206 lb-ft.

This video was shot May 12, 2011 at the Pikes Peak International Raceway, and shows calibration development on a chassis dyno, followed by the first shakedown test on the track.

What makes this car special isn't just the Banks turbos—it's the team behind it. As opposed to other full paid race teams with full factory support, they are all volunteers working with a shoestring budget. Though the car is nearly 20 years old, and they have been running with a massive power disadvantage (until now!) they still run in the top 3 every year. We like to think of it as a "David vs Goliaths" story. You can read more and see more at http://www.bankspower.com/pikespeak.

The big event is June 26, 2011 so make sure to come back and watch what is sure to be one heck of a race to the top!

  • top speed on this beast?

  • @Klimakteriumet We really don't know. The course the car will race on has 156 turns and an ultra high top speed wouldn't do us much good. This video was the very first shake down run. Testing on the mountain will take place shortly. Stay tuned!!

  • where is part 2?

  • @frankytap Getting filmed this weekend if the weather holds. Stay tuned!

  • Love BANKS stuff!!!, Get better half shafts next time and fire the crew chief. Leonard has never done well on Peak. Blows up A LOT. Watched him many times at Steamboat vintage races with all kinds of cars and they all ran like crap.

  • Lots of power all good and stuff, but looks like this baby has a VERY high center of gravity, I wonder how it turns.

  • Hi !

I really want to know if this car have any kind of braking or traction assist.

I already searched in Pikes Peak regulations and didn't found any rule about that.

i love this open wheel class, and if this cars are running without this assists i will become even more impressed with the drivers ability and with this awesome class!

sorry for any possible english mistake.

    Greetings from Brazil !
