She sings like a German flute. Lovely ! Just an surprise to hear this woman ! So chique ! I never heard her before, but she reminds me of Lucretia Bori. A small voice but with great distinction and taste.
Reinhardt has an exquisite legato and the most wonderfully expressive and controlled piano. This aria is long (with a *lot* of text to remember :D) and moves from pensive quiet to joyful hope, and Reinhardt navigates the changes in mood beautifully and skillfully.
I also like von Weber's orchestration. The lower strings from 0:38-1:00 create a solemn atmosphere. 8:33-8:50 seems to set up the big finish, but 8:50 pulls back. Then 8:58 modulates (I think!), and *now* we are done!
Quite magical and easily one one of the most beautiful versions of this aria on disc. How perfectly she ennunciates the German language. The tone is lovely, the scale perfectly even and the phrasing exceptional. She was also a remarkably gifted artist and her paintings are sought after. Both Lehmann and Schumann told me independently that she was their favourite Octavian.
Thank you Doug for the joy of hearing this again and for such an excellent transfer
Thanks to CurzonRoad, I'm returning to this recording and appreciate the lovely voice and great artistry of Delia Reinhardt even more now. There is a stillness to her singing--very appropriate to the aria--that is captivating, as well as a strong expressive quality. Her vocal texture reminds me of that of Lemnitz. Thanks again for posting!
It surely is a lovely performance. I'm only marginally acquainted with Reinhardt's singing from many years ago. She has a beautiful voice and great style. Der Freischutz itself is one of my favorite operas, not performed often enough, at least in the USA. Lemnitz made a classic recording of the aria, and I also like Grummer's singing of it from the complete set. Sutherland sang the role in her early Covent Garden years. Thanks AE for sending this my way, and thanks to LLehmannfan for posting.

A pleasure to listen to. She had a very beautiful, natural, unforced sound and a focused technique, in contrast with too many singers today.

Hermosa interpretación.
Me hizo recordar las que nos dejó la Schwarzkopf.
Las dos son sublimes.

The recording has wonderful lustre for 1929. Thank you llehmannfan for letting me hear it and an under-represented singer in 2009.
