Mark Whitehead of Star Technology speaks about his organization's need to monitor both IT and non-IT assets, such as facilities. Using service management, Mark gives his organization the visibility he needs into his facilities/datacenters, so he can effectively track power usage and help keep business efficient.
Transcript: So, traditionally, weve used Tivoli to monitor all of our IT systems, so that is servers and network, we want to use exactly the same infrastructure to monitor the non-IT stuff, the facilities. So, that is air conditioning units, UPS, chillers; if we network-enable all of those devices, then we can monitor and measure those with exactly the same Tivoli infrastructure and we can also interface with the building management system for alerts.
The big thing for us really is its gonna give us visibility that we just dont have with our other two datacenters. We dont have the visibility of power usage and where its going. And to be able to use the same infrastructure, we dont have to invest in a whole new load of systems for the new datacenter. We can use existing.
