Can look a bit odd when they mount the Escort at 1m 10 sec. Some people think the soldiers are running to catch-up as they are late! Not surprising really, unless you know why they do it.

@gaalvanize...It's a tradition when leaving that the Sergeant-Major shouts "Mount the escorts" or "Out the escorts". Two men hold their rifles in a ready position and then run to either side of the Officer, or Ensign carrying the Colour (the flag) if there is one. It represents protecting the Colour in battle, a Regiment would protect it's Colours at any cost as they were the rallying point for the Regiment. Not all units do this. I believe it is up to the Sergeant-Major whether they do, or not.

at 1 10 they run up to the front of the esourt to guard them back to barracks
