Explanation? Well, there are several. I could PM, but what the fuck. I'll just try and summarize it with a good example. Medicare, Medicaid. Price Fixing. But wait you say, that's not good enough. Well here:

.Cost of health-care for families: 1950 - 12.75 Billion. 1960 - 26.9 Billion 1970 - 74.7 Billion 1975 - 131.5 Billion.

And my meds, I meant healthcare, not to get you confused.

if the govt is at fault, why do other countries that have govt run health care spend far less than we do?
I think blaming govt for all our problems is nothing more than ideological drivel. Take a good look at the history of corporate malfeasance- that ought to have you think twice about the precious "private sector" being any good for us.

You must think we don't have socialized medicine. We do. Just in a different way then other countries. Those loved Scandinavian socialist countries, aren't socialist to begin with.
Naturally, corporations along with big government is to blame. You do know, that health care insurance lobbyist spent millions to push the health care reform bill? If you're going to accuse me of not liking big government because of my ideological, then you're "hatred" for private sector is ideologically driven. Fair?

My distrust of huge corporations is based on an irrefutable historical pattern of corruption and malfeasance.
I believe when govt is at its worst, it is operating on BEHALF of this same private sector. So, I don't distinguish between the two very much- especially the way things are run in this country today.

Our system is broken. Some say capitalism did it, others say socialism did it. I say IGNORANCE did it. We are a dumb ass country full of dumb ass, ignorant people.

Well, I hold also a very historical stance in that, we've never had capitalism, a true free market if you will, so the corporations through this, we're able to take control of our government. And yes, we have never had capitalism. But I won't be ignorant, so I'll say we've never had socialism, though we're more close to corporatism/fascism then socialism.

I hold a very historical stance as well: capitalism, socialism, communism have never truly existed in the industrialized age.

Humankind lived, essentially, a communistic lifestyle for scores of thousands of years as hunters/gatherers.

There are rich people. There are poor people. The rich people, historically, are metaphorically sodomizing the poor people. Sometimes god was the justification, sometimes might makes right- social darwinism.

Life is fun.

I don't really see what total disagreement we have here. Once we get to the real global economic meltdown, the system will have to reset. For you can't fix a broken system with a broken system. Then once it happens, death, war, all that fun stuff. Then once over, things will be much more local.

well, you essentially blamed govt for high drug prices, and I think it's because the drug companies are greedy, heavily subsidized cocksuckers (excuse the language- but big pharma deserves no better!)

Other than that- yeah, death, blood, war- it's all very exciting.

Viva Montaigne!

I actually mis worded what I had said. I meant to say health-care.

"we've never had capitalism"
Do some research on the westward expansion. Opportunists, err, i mean capitalists took over entire towns that the government hadn't yet reached. Those wealthy enough to stake a claim of ownership over these towns wer eventually widdled down, until a handful extremely wealthy capitalist reigned over the people. Left to their own devices capitalists will compete until there is no one to compete with, it is the nature of capitalism, or empire if you prefer.
