  • How's this for irony? Jack Narz was the original Mayor (host) of Heatter-Quigley's "Video Village" in New York City. When he left the show to move back to Los Angeles, Monty Hall became the new Mayor. (Even more ironic was that two weeks after Mayor Hall was "elected", Heatter-Quigley packed their bags for Hollywood, taking "Video Village", town crier Kenny Williams and Mayor Hall with them. They set up shop at CBS Television City, where this version of "Beat the Clock" was produced.)

  • The girls make me think of "Hooters" girls.

  • The "beaten" clock cartoon at the end of the opening was a colorized version of the cartoon opening of the ABC version in the latter years of Bud Collyer's original "Beat the Clock." Incidentrally, the Ritz Theater, where both the original "Beat the Clock" and "The Price is Right" breathed their last on ABC, very much alive as Broadway's Walter Kerr Theater. THe Hudson Theater, birthplace of "Price" and "The Tonight Show" is now part of the Millenium Hotel in Times Square.

  • Jack Narz did a great rhyme:

    Blow it, tow it.

    Swing it, fling it.

    Grab it, nab it.

    Snap it, tap it.

    Hop it, pop it.

    Smash it, mash it.

  • Taped September 4, 1979. Not that much different from what aired, really, except for a supposed "format hole" that was patched prior to taping #2 and #3 the following day.

Could anybody explain what the supposed "hole" was?

  • I thought it was good that Narz MC'ed this show. But I never did like that big 'clunk' of a clock. I prefered the Narz/Wood clocks the best.

  • Well, whatever the red section had, the red section would divide that, and whatever the green section had, the green section would divide that.

  • Ah, thanks :) Wow...$1000 for two color groups...

  • It was two color groups on Beat The Clock, red and green. You're thinking of Tattletales with the blue, yellow (banana), and red.

  • I think noveltooner and robcas were referring to Video Village when they said only a handful of eps exist.

  • Really? I thought all the Narz/Wood episodes exist; why else would GSN air 'em?

  • Violence against clocks! :(
