1969. The french Pia Colombo sings my favorite rendition of "Surabaya Johnny" from Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht's "Happy End". Sounds a bit like what Piaf would have done with the song.

  • brava Mademoiselle!

  • Mademoiselle comprend parfaitement la musique de Weill.

  • I'm amazed at how great this sounds in French. Thanks for posting.

  • MERCI !

  • french is a musical language. Pia colombo's interpretation is razor sharp, perfect for Brecht and Weill. Sadly unavailable in the market is this gem of an album, "Pia Colombo chante Brecht and Weill." But it lives on in your channel. Thank you.

  • oui...une des vraies grandes interprètes de Kurt Weill, avec Lotte Lenya, Teresa Stratas et Milva....

  • Merci!
