Well, I agree that he maybe hasn't developed much since The Departed (I haven't watched J. Edgar yet), but I totally disagree with your comment that he's not a versatile actor. Romance, druggie, suspense, Shakespeare, hardcore action, indie - he's definitely got a very versatile filmography under his belt. His films recently have seemed kinda similar, but his performances in all of them have been amazing, just as his performances in so many diverse films in the past have.
