Journey on South African Railways from Kimberley to the Cape, March 1984. Includes stops at Kraankuil and De Aar. Note: 39 seconds into this, it should read "25nc" and not "24nc". I can not type on a computer.
What a beautiful collection of steam pictures, with Beethoven in the background. Looks like I got to South Africa 10 years too late. No steam in 1994, except the weekly TransKaroo between Klerksdorp and Joburg.
Wonderful stuff. I worked those mighty 25NCs on the Kimberley to De Aar line for many years and it was just great. Your photos bring back many memories. Just looking at things such as the signals and stations and of course the locos makes me want to head back to those wonderful days. The one loco in your shots at Kraankuil on the stopping passenger is 3432 "Lady Jane" and is now preserved in New Zealand. Thanks for sharing the shots.
All I can say is beautiful - such wonderful, magnificent, powerful machines! Thanks for posting!
