So throaty. I understand why people love him and why he has become so successful, but the Italian repertoire just isn't for him. He can't sing without that microphone. I find him fantastic in the German repertoire, so just stick to it, please.

Vocalist of the Year 2012.It's so sad that so many people these days get fooled so easily by pseudo-classical pretenders and aren't capable to truly appreciate the real stuff like that :(

i can not believe the depth of stupidity and ignorance of the last comments both on Kaufmann and Domingo.When is Opera going to get rid of all these "purists" and old fashionists who are totally unable of apreciating a diferent approach on a piece,and prefer to think that modern singers are untalented.. Kaufmann or Netrebko or Villazon are not untalented,they deserve their glory.They refuse to stick to techniques and styles of the old timers! They spread Opera's horizons and elaborate singing!

But I can say that Domingo is where opera for the public shifted away from singing and over to acting. I agree that the people need acting AND singing on stage, but with modern singers it is only acting that matters. Look at Villazon, Kaufmann and Dessay with vocal surgery, Florez with terrible middle and low voice, Netrebko out of tune so often - but all good actors. This sends a message to the young people learning to sing.

@jaketaz But I do not believe that this one is exactly the problem. The singer of Opera must be also a bit an actor and Domingo is the better that I have seen in a scene. His performances are very convincing. I like Domingo singing in a theatre an Opera because it does not leave of the digest adapted for his voice. Is in the recordings where it has failed.

Domingo recorded everything, but he does not have a GREAT recording of ANYTHING. Also everyone knows his high notes were bad. it's very simple: in modern times people care more about looks and acting, and they tolerate bad singing.

@Tenorliebe This is the legacy that this leaving mr. Placido Domingo. He has wanted to sing everything (recording in studio) and this way he has made believe to the new generations of tenors that they can sing all. Already the light tenors do not exist, the lyric ones or the dramatists. Now all is right. Where are the bearded women, the crocodile childrens and the trapeze artists? Because you mr. Domingo has turned the world of the Opera into a CIRCUS. Thank you mr. Domingo.
