must put in a plug for 'Margrave of the Marshes' Excellent writing as well as a great chronicle of his age.

Spoken to John once when you could phone radio one and youd get straight through to the dj. Was about 14 at the time, we chatted about the hardcore bands, napalm death, sore throat, e.n.t etc, what a gentleman. He dedicated the next track to me by The Relations from Perth, Scotland. Taped it but have lost the tape, absolutely kills me now ive not got that! What a man. R.I.P John

I'm American and I've heard about John for years but never knew much about him until now. These dozen or so youtube videos I've seen on him have really knocked me out. What a guy. There were quite a few legendary DJ's in the 50's and 60's here in the States that ,like John, put music above their own personalities. Tom Donahue in Frisco, Dewey Phillips in Memphis, John R. in Nashville, Scott Muni and Pete Fornatele in NYC. And many more. Britain is a lucky country to have had this man.

The great John Peel, indeed.
I also remember with great fondness the mighty Alexis Korner whos radio show turned me on to so many types of music in my formative years.

Influential men both!
