Someone COULD do what John Peel did - but definitely not in America. The media is far too profit driven to take a chance on unsigned bands. The fact that there are only a small handful of giant corporations that own most of the media outlets makes it even less likely. They've got stockholders to answer to. There isn't any true competition. ...and people wonder why our culture is going to shit. Normal people could never have a forum like Peel.

Just watched all 3 parts on the anniversary of Peelie's death - and I'm crying my eyes out with a big smile on my face.

I can't believe I gave away all my Peel sessions vinyls when I left England.

What year was this. A truly great man loved his show.
-
What a lovely man. Late night radio will always mean his voice for me.
-
The only good thing Pulp ever did was write a song that William Shatner covered, The Fall and The Weddoes rule though.
-
The two Johns Peel and Walters will never be replaced
-
Part of music itself died when John left us :-(

a mushroom buriyani on me john. god we miss you

John Peel will always be a legend, wish there was some1 who was capable of doing what he did all those years ago, if there was the charts would not be full of the shite it is today and a real diversity of music would still in the charts. On a personal note he got me sacked from 3 morning paper rounds, as I had to listen until midnight when radio 1 finished and did not get up! Would not have swapped it for the world. The word legend is used often these days but John Peel was 1.R.I.P John

John Peel was one of those really important people in my life.
He was a one off and can never be replaced.
I still can't come to terms with the fact that he's not here with us any more.
I feel strongly that he went before his time was up ...
