Actually it should be called Philippine-American Friendship Day. Technically, we won our independence from Spain in 1898 but the US invaded and stayed. We fought a war but lost with them in the Philippine-American War of 1898.
Some Americans like to think that they saved us from the Japs. Not true. It was Gen. Wainright who surrendered to the Japs, not the Filipino's.
We don't owe the Americans, they owe us. US Supreme Court awarded Phil. WW2 vets $198million
