@tchick Thanks for the explanation, I was wondeering why the wings were eventually eliminated.

Don't mention this in polite company but there is a lot of evidence that Earhart was not a good pilot technically (and neither incidentally was Amy Johnson). This in no way diminishes either of the ladies' achievements of course. This aircraft is simply beautiful.

Amelia Earhart said these were hard to control. She crashed her autogiro three times.

was used to deliver mail/cargo in the 30s, even Amelia Earhart used to fly these! amazing machines...

Love the Oshkosh Airshow ! If you love flying and have,nt been there your missing the most fun you can do flying after joining the mile high club ! You,ll see aircraft, exibits, acrobatics shows and make new friends from all over the wourld. Its the best family friendly and kid ( big and small ) educational place in the wourld to take the family this summer or any summer vacation ! I know cause I grew up going to it since it was in Rockford,IL..Its why I went Aviation in the USCG..

Muito legal!
interesting concept but the blades push the air into the wings

@slotinnn In an autogiro the blades are not powered. Air goes up through the blades which keeps them spinning. Air is not pushed downward onto the wings. This model autogiro has a fixed rotorhead. Modern autogiros have rotorheads with cyclic control which allows the pilot to control the aircraft by tilting the rotorhead side to side and fore and aft. This early Pitcairn has ailerons on the wings for control. When cyclic controlled rotorheads were developed the wings were eliminated.
